"Like stained glass windows, the saints allow the light of God to permeate the darkness of sin in the world."
-from the homily given by Pope Francis on the All Saints Day, November 1, 2017
The most effective way for future generations to be inspired by
Dorothy Day’s
life and values is through official canonization.
The Dorothy Day Canonization Prayer Network exists to help make this happen.
We designed our website to be very user friendly. At the bottom of the Prayer Calendar page, your group can submit your prayer commitment. At the top of the Prayer Request page you can submit your prayer intention.
Why canonize Dorothy Day? When the Roman Catholic Church canonizes a person, it gives a model for living the life of Christ in the world today. Dorothy Day’s life and work reflect the non-violence and care for the poor that Jesus lived. She taught us to see the face of Christ in the poor and to work for justice for all. Canonization is the best way to further the ideals to which she dedicated her life.
The cause for her canonization can only happen after two special favors have been granted through her intercession. One is to reach beatification and another for canonization. These favors need to meet the definition of a miracle which typically is a healing not attributable to any human intervention. Our Prayer Network is dedicated to assist in this process by building a mighty network of prayer for those asking for her intercession!
Who we are. The Dorothy Day Canonization Prayer Network was founded in 2010 by Michael and Nettie Cullen, Anne Klement, Fr. Joe Mattern, David Mueller, Rosalie Riegle and the late Bob Waldrop to promote the cause to have Dorothy Day reach Sainthood through building a Prayer Network of groups and communities. The cause had been at a stand still for many years. In 2014 the cause starting moving forward and is at an advanced stage that now the sole purpose of our collective prayer is for those seeking Dorothy’s intercession. The current Core Committee which guides the work of the Network consists of Martha Hennessy, Anne Klejment, Fr. Joe Mattern, David Mueller and Rosalie Riegle. David Mueller serves as the Coordinator.
To participate in our "Network", groups are:
Asked to make a monthly commitment to pray for those asking for a favor or sign or grace through Dorothy Day's intercession. We have a Prayer Request page where those asking for Dorothy Day's intercession can submit prayer requests and have their prayer intention posted. There are no membership fees for groups to join our network.
We encourage individuals who support the canonization cause to join the Dorothy Day Guild. The Dorothy Day Guild (www.dorothydayguild.org) organized by the Archdiocese of New York, is the sponsor of the canonization cause. Individuals may join and support the work of the Guild through their membership fees.

Dorothy Day is already a "saint" in the eyes of millions.
It’s time to build the prayer support needed
to make her canonization a reality!
